  Correspondence relating to the Paris Universal Exhibition, 1855, where Sir William Macarthur was one of the New South Wales Commissioners; dated May 1854-October 1863 (bulk May 1854-December 1856).
  
  Correspondents include Frederick Bousfield, Secretary to the Paris Exhibition Commission of New South Wales; Hugh Gallagher, Wollongong, in response to request for specimens of wood; Dr Robert Falder, Wollongong, regarding rare tree at Mount Keira known as the "Blood Tree"; covering letter from Campbell Riddell, Colonial Secretary's Office, to Edward Deas Thomson, William Macarthur, and Matthew Henry Marsh, 27 Dec 1854, with enclosure, letters patent appointing Sir William as a commissioner; Alfred Stephen; W. B. Clarke; A. W. Scott; James King; Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris; Froidefond des Farges, Societe de Geographie, Paris; Professor Richard Owen, regarding Australian wines; North British Agricultural Office. With drafts or copies of letters by William, chiefly in Paris, also at Camden.
  
  Include lists of specimens; receipts; Catalogue of the natural and industrial products of New South Wales exhibited in the Australian Museum by the Paris Exhibition Commissioners, Sydney, November 1854 (printed); sketch floor plan of the exhibition; list of NSW wines exhibited; memoranda regarding disposal of exhibits, including bust of Ludwig Leichhardt by Abrahams; Diplome de Correspondant awarded to William by Museum d'Histoire Naturelle; statement of gold sales in Paris and London and related expenses, 15 Feb 1856; request to British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, undersigned by William Macarthur and others, for permission to accept and wear the Legion of Honour bestowed on them by the French Emperor for services to science and industry, and refusal by Foreign Office; list of medals commissioned by Paris Exhibition Commission of New South Wales, and how disposed of, 17 Mar 1856; list of medals awarded to the colony of New South Wales.
