  Include letters written in Melbourne, Parramatta, Sydney, London and Cholmondeley Castle, chiefly to his brothers James and William; also to his niece, Elizabeth, and Gordon Gardner, Chief Clerk, Colonial Office.
  
  Subjects include assuming command of the troops in Australia on the death of Sir Robert Nickle; wine making; wool sales; self-government; William's representation of NSW at the Paris Exhibition, 1855; Crimean War; preparations for ballot for election of members to new houses of legislature in Victoria; becoming interim governor on the death of Sir Charles Hotham; James serving as treasurer in the first responsible government of NSW; proposed railway through Elizabeth Farm; commissioning of award medals; arrival and installation of Sir Henry Barkly as Governor, and Sir Edward's retirement as Lieutenant-Governor; return to England, 1860; letting of Elizabeth Farm to Thomas Iceley; death of James.
