  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Greg Weight, born 1946, is a professional photographer based in Sydney. The beginnings of his career were associated with The Yellow House (Kings Cross, N.S.W.) which was an artists' collective founded by artist Martin Sharp. Other members of the collective included Dick Weight, George Gittoes, Brett Whiteley, Bruce Goold, Ellis D Fogg, Peter Kingston, Albie Thoms, Greg Weight, Peter Weir, Georgia Kelso, Peter Powdich, Little Nell and Jonny Lewis.

Between 1970 and 1973, the Yellow House was a piece of living art and a mecca to pop art. The canvas was the house itself and almost every wall, floor and ceiling became part of the gallery. Many well-known artists helped to create the multi-media performance art space that may have been Australia’s first 24 hour-a-day ‘happening’.
