    Begins 25 August 1843, attending Committee on the Price of Crown Lands; contains references to acquisition of allotments at Lindesay; affairs at East Bargo (Parkhall Estate); questions and answers relating to Mitchell's performance of his duties as Surveyor-General; moving into the stables at Lindesay (2 September 1843); marking the line of road between Cooks River and Georges River; information from W. Smyth from Moreton Bay and west of Darling Downs.

    1844: List of men at Parkhall (1 January); Alexander Burnett committed for trial for charges of felony brought against him by Mitchell; applies for leave of absence to proceed to England (15 February); information from William Macleay on fossil bones at Darling Downs; drafts of letters; draft of address to electors of Port Phillip District concerning vacancy in the Legislative Council; notes on fieldwork on the road to Illawarra, 22-26 April; takes his seat as Member for Port Phillip, 28 May; detailed account of meeting with the Governor, 1 August 1844, about Mitchell's conflicting roles as a Government officer and elected representative on the question of the price of Crown land; shown a dispatch from Lord Stanley allowing Governor Gipps to send an exploring party to Port Essington, 24 October; receives and important letter from Sir George Murray, applies to be allowed to go on an exploring expedition, 14 December.

    1845: Marks the line of descent and site for a bridge across Georges River, 3 February; detailed account of meeting with the Governor on various matters, 21 July; Dr Nicholson sends the Report of the British Association [for the Advancement of Science?] for 1844 containing Owen's report on the extinct mammals of Australia, 14 October; leaves Sydney to join exploring party, 9 December; list of the party employed on the expedition at Boree, 14 December 1845.

    1846: Draft of a report and drafts of letters written at various camps, to 14 December 1846 at Snodgrass Lagoon.

    Includes ink sketch and floor plan of house (at Parkhill?); and receipts written by other parties for wages and payments received from Mitchell.

    Weekdays do not correspond with dates in July 1845, e.g. meeting with Governor is given as Monday 21 July 1845, while on the same page Friday and Saturday are given as 24 and 25 July (i.e. 25 and 26?).

    There are two dated sequences in 1845, one dated 1 January-30 July 1845, followed by 9 February-14 December (end of volume).
