  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Lillian Caswell was a missionary in New Guinea in the early twentieth century.

    Henry Douglas Vyner Caswell, business manager of Walgett, N.S.W., was Lillian Caswell’s brother. He enlisted at the age of 29 in the 17th Battalion, 19th Reinforcements, 19 May 1916. He embarked on A 18 Wiltshire, 7 Feb. 1917 and served in France and Belgium. He was reported missing in action, 13 Oct. 1917 and later posted killed in action at Broodseinde near Ypres, Belgium

    Jack Stewart Caswell, bank clerk of Coonamble, N.S.W., enlisted aged 18, 3 June 1915 and served with the 2nd Battalion in France. He died of wounds received in action in France, 22 June 1916

    Thomas Montague Caswell was an apprentice at the Govt. Dockyard at Cockatoo Island and an engineer before enlisting in the A.I.F. at the age of 27 on 25 Sept. 1916. He embarked from Melbourne on the Persic, 22 Dec. 1916 and served in France with the 5th Divisional M.T. Coy. He returned to Australia on the Argyllshire, 1 Aug. 1919

    Keith Shadforth Sheen Dowling, a shipping clerk of North Sydney, enlisted 8 Mar. 1917 aged 27, embarked on A 15 Port Sydney, 5 Nov. 1917 and served with the 7th Field Ambulance Brigade in France. He returned to Australia on the Norman, 20 Aug. 1919
