  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Ines Raffaelli emigrated from Italy to Australia, settling in Sydney, in September 1951. In November 1951 she became a secretary for the Capuchin Fathers at Leichhardt, involved in work to assist the growing influx of Italian migrants. In July 1955 she became the first announcer of the Italian language program, L'Ora Italiana [The Italian Hour], on Radio 2SM. The program was a joint venture of the Capuchins and the La Fiamma newspaper. Ines worked in her role as presenter on the program until 1957. She maintained a connection with the program in a number of roles until it ceased broadcasting in 1981. Ines married Menotti Ianitto in 1955.
