    Morton was on the Pandora when the Wairarapa earthquake of 1855 stuck. The earthquake is recorded in the journal from page 400 onwards.

  • Scope and Content
    Narrative of Lieutenant Theodore Morton Jones of H.M.S. Pandora under Captain Drum, from 1851-1856 in surveying the coast of New Zealand. includes interesting description of the coast, the interior, the native tribes, the town and European settlers, their society and customs. Journal commences on 2 June 1851 with Morton's appointment to the Pandora.

    "This account of our wanderings in the little Pandora during a long commission of nearly six years has here completed with a view of its perusal probably affording some little pleasure to those we holds nearest and dearest, and from whose criticism on the labour of love, the narrator feels assured he has not much fear. March 12th 1856, on the passage to England, ... New Zealand and the Faukland Islands".

    Includes newspaper clippings giving descriptions of the Pandora's travels around New Zealand.
