On Monday evening last, at half-past four, the passengers that came in the barque Psyche, from London, met on board the vessel for the purpose of presenting the captain with a slight testimonial of their regard for his kind and gentlemanly conduct during the passage out. A piece of plate, in the shape of a salver, made by Mr. Forrester, of Collins-street. In the centre of the salver was a shield, supported by the colonial emblems, an emu and kangaroo, with the following inscription Presented to Captain Henry R. Irving, by the passengers of the barque Psyche, as a testimonial of their regard for his kind and gentlemanly conduct on the passage from London to Hobart Town."

  • Scope and Content
The diary has no author, but from the first several pages it appears that the ship was the barque "Psyche", captained by Henry Irving. There is also a small list of passengers mentioned.
