The London Missionary Society (LMS) had commenced missionary activity in the South Seas, and Aaron Buzacott and his wife, Sarah, were Congregational missionaries in the Cook Islands.

The Rev. Buzacott was an author of ethnographic works and co-translator of the Bible into the language of Rarotonga (one of the Cook Islands) between 1828 and 1857.

8 vols of the original manuscript as a rough draft, with numerous corrections, additions and excisions, many papers have been cut out. Last volume is written in pencil and occurs 20 years after the previous volume. Commences with "Finally, leaving Rarotonga".

Starts with family and early church life of Rev. Buzacott in Devon, and ends in 1827/1828 with his travels to the South Seas with the London Missionary Society.
