  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Peter Board was born on 27 March 1858 in Wingham (N.S.W.). He attended Fort Street High School for two years before completing an university junior examination in 1873 to become a pupil teacher, reaching his full qualification in 1877. Board advanced quickly in his career, becoming a headmaster of Macdonaldtown Public School at the the age of 26, then moving onto be a schools inspector in Lismore and in the districts of Albury and Newcastle. In 1905, Board was appointed under-secretary and Director of Public Instruction (N.S.W.), a position that he held until 1922.
