    "[During his governorship, Sir John Franklin] founded the Tasmanian Society for the promotion of natural science, agriculture and statistics" -- "The lost mariners in the polar seas (first paper)". The Leisure Hour v. 3 no. 106, 5 January 1854 (Google eBook, accessed 20/5/2014). Franklin's entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography states that "[h]e founded the Tasmanian Natural History Society, some of whose members later formed the first Royal Society outside the British Isles" (http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/franklin-sir-john-2066 , accessed 20/5/2014).
