Jennifer Mary Ellen Alison (1935-2010), librarian and publishing historian, held senior positions in the areas of selection and collection building at the Fisher Library, University of Sydney from the 1970s until her retirement in 1990. She was joint editor of the annual publication Australia & Pacific Book Prices Current 1973 and 1974, and co-compiler of Directory of Special Collections in Australiana (1988).

Alison converted her passionate interest in book collecting into a scholarly study of Australian private presses for her Master of Librarianship thesis at the University of New South Wales, 1984. Her major contribution to Australian publishing history rests in her 1997 PhD thesis, Angus and Robertson as Publishers 1888-1900: A Business History, published as Doing Something for Australia : George Robertson and the Early Years of Angus and Robertson, Publishers 1888–1900 (2009).
