  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The ships Alice Cameron, Kate, Neva and the Sir George Grey were all barques or schooners of the Circular Saw Line. They are all depicted flying the flag of this line: a blue circular saw on a white background.

  • Collection history
    This collection was originally owned by Henderson & Macfarlane, a New Zealand shipping company that owned most of the vessels. The five works were then transferred to Burns, Philp & Co. Ltd, Sydney in 1938 when they acquired the assets of Henderson & Macfarlane. These watercolours hung in the Burns Philp headquarters in Sydney until 1998 when the company was dissolved.
