  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Lieutenant Arthur Gardere Ferguson, a university student of Potts Point, Sydney, enlisted in the A.I.F. aged 22, 19 May 1915. He embarked from Sydney on the Berrima and served with the 20th Battalion at Gallipoli and in France, being promoted Captain in Sept. 1915. He was killed in action in France, 14 June 1916

    Keith Aubrey Ferguson, a student of Bellevue Hill, Sydney, enlisted aged 20 on 17 May 1916 and embarked on the Demosthenes 18 May 1916 and served with the 3rd Divisonal Cyclist Company and the 20th Battalion in France. He was wounded in action 29 Mar. 1917 and invalided to England. He returned to Australia on H.M.A.T. Kanowna, 14 Sept. 1917

    Myrton Trangmar Allan, solicitor of Woolwich, Sydney enlisted in the A.I.F. 10 December 1915 aged 22 and served with the 7th Reinforcements, 20th Battalion. He died at 6th Australian Field Ambulance from wounds received in action, 27 July 1916

    Cecil (Caeser)Rodwell Lucas was appointed Lieutenant in May 1915, promoted to Captain in Apr. 1916 and Major, Apr. 1917 and served with the 17th, 53rd, 54th and 56th Battalions. In Apr. 1917 he was mentioned in despatches in connection with raids in Sept. 1916. He was treated for trench fever in Mar. 1917 and gassed in Apr. 1918 and returned to Australia in June 1919

    William Rueben George Diehm, a clerk of Albury, N.S.W. was 18 when he enlisted in the A.I.F., 22 June 1915. He served with the B Company, 20th Battalion in Egypt but was discharged due to myopia. He returned to Australia on the Kanowna, 21 Oct. 1915

    Edwin Mayhew Brissenden, barrister of Sydney, enlisted aged 43, 27 Mar. 1915 and served as lieutenant with the Cyclists Corps and the 34th Battalion in France. He was mentioned in despatches, Nov. 1918 and awarded the Ordre de Merite Agricole - Chevalier and M.B.E., Dec. 1919

    Evan Selwyn Richards, a science student of Vaucluse, Sydney applied for a commission in the 20th Battalion aged 25 years, 19 May 1915. He embarked on H.M.A.T. Berrima, 26 June 1915 and served in France. He was appointed temporary Captain 14 Aug. 1916 and died from wounds received in action, 5 Sept. 1916

    Walter Paton MacCallum, a university student of Woollahra, Sydney was granted a commission in the 20th Battalion, A.I.F. in June 1915 aged 20 and was promoted lieutenant at Gallipoli, Aug. 1915 and captain in France, July 1916. He was awarded the Military Cross in Feb. 1917 and mentioned in despatches, Apr. 1918. Major MacCallum was awarded the D.S.O. in Jan. 1919 and returned to Australia on the Demosthenes. He worked as a medical practitioner and held teaching posts in Sydney and later served in the Second World War in the Middle East, Greece, Java, East Indies and New Guinea

    Ivan Brunker Sherbon served with the Australian Naval & Expeditionary Force in Rabaul in 1915 and the 19th Battalion in France where he was killed in action, 14 Nov. 1916. He was appointed temporary major in Aug. 1916 and awarded the Military Cross
