  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

David Ell, 1940-2014, was founder and managing director of David Ell Press, an Australian publishing firm which focussed on subjects relating to Australian heritage. Books published by the firm include Australian antiques : First Fleet to Federation / Caroline Simpson (1977), Australian Mining, Minerals and Oils / John Alexander and Richard Hattersley (1981) and First views of Australia 1788-1825 : a history of early Sydney / Tim McCormick (1987).

In the early 1990s David Ell Press partnered with the British Natural History Museum with plans to produce a five-volume set entitled 'Art of Australia, 1788-1799' featuring reproductions of approximately 700 drawings held at The Natural History Museum and The Alexander Turnbull Library in New Zealand. The publication however did not eventuate.

In his later life Ell's business interests diversified into marketing. He founded and managed Dialogue Marketing Group from approximately 1991-2003.
