  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Lady Rachel Dudley was wife to the Governor-General William Humble Ward, 2nd Earl of Dudley. After arriving in Sydney in 1908, in 1909 she launched The Bush Nursing Scheme to raise awareness and acquire resources to assist Australians living in the outback. During World War I she set up and worked at a hospital for Australian soldiers, and established clubs for officers in northern France. In 1918, she became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and was decorated with the Royal Red Cross. She died in Ireland.
