From an early age, Babs Mackinnon was part of "The Musical Macks", a family entertainment group that performed stage shows in Sydney in the 1930s and 1940s. She sang on the Tivoli Circuit from the age of 14 and was considered to be Australia's first "Idol" in 1940s. Babs was a ground breaker in Australian television, hosting her own variety segment in Australia's first television telecast on 16 Sept 1956. Later in her career she performed on shows such as "Sound of Music," "Late Show," and "Magic of Music", and entertained on P & O cruise ships during 1970s. In 2004 she received the Order of Australia, for her contribution to Australian Entertainment.
