    Richard Burdsall Lyth was born on 9 July 1810 in York, Yorkshire. He married Mary Ann Hardy on 27 September 1836 in Bradford, Yorkshire and emigrated from England in 1837.
    He was one of the first Wesleyan Methodist missionaries to visit Fiji and was also the author of a poem in four books published in 1834. Richard Burdsall was 76 when he died in Yorkshire, England, in March 1887 having returned from his Wesleyan Methodist Ministerial duties in Fiji, New Zealand and Gibraltar.
