    Talk given on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation, and the publication of Connell's history, of the ACER. Connell discusses the documentary and archival sources that he consulted in Australia and overseas, and the influence of the ACER on the study of education Australia-wide, Australian educational literature and on promoting educational research. Profesor Peter H. Karmel, President of the ACER, offers concluding remarks and acknowledges Connell's labours in writing the history.
