  • Scope and Content
A cartoon depicting an elderly man with a basket and probably fishing gear asleep and leaning against a pole with a sign 'Wait here for trams on Sundays'. A tram conductor pulls on his jacket, appearing to be shouting and indicating that a tram is waiting. The tram has a destination sign 'Poverty Point' and a sign along the side of the tram 'H.M.A.S. insolvent'.

The cartoon refers to a tram dispute in Sydney in 1948. An article in 'The Argus' on 9 October 1948 reports that trams will run on Sunday in Sydney for the second time in 14 weeks. The dispute began when the State Government proposed a partial tram service on Sundays. Tramwaymen refused to man a partial service claiming that overcrowding would endanger themselves and passengers.
