    A collection of various documents that came to the Mitchell Library in response to the Library's general appeal for the diaries and other papers of Australian servicemen and women who served in World War 1.

    1. Handwritten letter in Turkish Arabic, n.d. [Includes envelope which is stamped Mersine 26 July 1915.]
    2. Australian Red Cross Society, N.S.W. Division Application Circular sent to Miss L. Windeyer from E. Marie Irvine, Commandant. [Includes envelope.]
    3. 6 day passes giving permission to Gunner G.K Townshend, 2nd Australian Field Artillery, to leave Amiens and proceed to St. Omer, Cassel and Sailly, April 1917-October 1918. [Includes handwritten single sheet of diary entries for 19-28 July, 19--?]
    4. Biographical information on: (i) Sergeant H. E. Bull, written by his mother Mrs S. Kelaher; a typed letter to Mrs Kelaher from the Australian Imperial Force Base Records Office, 21 January 1918, and a typed description of the events surrounding Sergeant Bull’s death in 1917; (ii) Trooper Herbert Langley Newell, 5th Light Horse Queensland, 6th Reinforcements; (iii) Lieutenant John Campbell Noates, 4th Australian Infantry Battalion.
    5. United States Government Thrift card; includes a Thrift Stamp of US 25 cents.
    6. United States of America Individual Seaman’s Application for food supplies, on board the Osterley, New York, 14 November 1918, for Assistant Purser Desmond Richardson.

    24. Carbon copy of a typed letter from W. H. Birdwood, 23 October 1917, France, to Pritchard on his receiving the Military Cross. The medal was in recognition of Pritchard’s bravery during the operation at Polygon Wood, France, on the 26 September 1917.
    25. Copy of an article by Stanley F. Allen, September 1916, on conscription. Includes a response written by Charles E. James, Stanmore, 16 October 1916.

    30. German death card, recording the death of Soldier John Turner, 30th Battalion, 17 August 1916. Inscription on the back in pencil reads “Original German death card…….Procured by Captain Mills for the Red Cross”. 31 March 1920.
