These are sound recordings of interviews conducted during the making of the video 'God's Girls: Stories from an Australian Convent', written and directed by Cherie Nowlan, published in 1992.

Nuns and ex-nuns describe life in the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Singleton, N.S.W., from the early 1940s to the present. They discuss the regimented daily life of the convent, their hardships, the politics of the Church and the effects of modernisation introduced in the late 1960s to the sisterhood, and the reasons for leaving. For the small number of nuns who stay, still believing in the vows of sacrifice, prayer and celibacy, the future is uncertain unless they are able to adapt to the demands of the changing world outside the convent.
