  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sir Frederick Matthew Darley (1830-1910), chief justice and lieutenant-governor, was born on 18 September 1830 in Ireland. He sailed with his wife in the Swiftsure from Plymouth to Australia in January 1862. On 2 June he was admitted to the New South Wales Bar.

    Cecil West Darley, who emigrated with Frederick, became Chief Engineer of New South Wales and supervised the construction of Sydney Harbour Docks.

On the back of the letter is written in pencil 'Letter to Hill'; (3) handwritten letter from Cecil Darley to his brother Frederick, dated 3 August 1868. The letter is written on paper containing Cecil's letterhead.
