  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sandy Barrie organised an event to mark the commemoration of 150 years of professional photography in Australia (1842-1992). George B. Goodman opened the first professional photography studio in Australia at the Royal Hotel, Sydney, on 12 December 1842. The event was held in the Dymocks Building in George Street, Sydney (which is approximately on the site of the Royal Hotel). A small group including the Governor and his wife, a Shadow Minister, and photographers attended. The portrait of Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair and his wife Shirley Sinclair was taken to mark this commemoration.
