    Alexander Houison (1838-1888) was born in Parramatta, N.S.W., the son of Ann Houison (nee Stark) and James Houison. Alexander married Fanny Eliza Roberts in 1865 and they had 4 children - James, Maude, Martha and Fanny.

    James Houison designed and erected many notable buildings in Parramatta, including St John's Church, All Saints' Church, Subiaco Convent, the old Parramatta Courthouse and the Parramatta Gaol.

    This collection includes (1) printed colour poster for 'Back to Parramatta 145th Anniversary, 1788-1933' held on 26 October - 4 November 1933; (2) printed certificate issued to Maude Houison for her service in the Australian Red Cross during the Great war, 1914-1919; (3) printed Form of Service, St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney, June 1901, used by the Duchess of Cornwall and York; (4) printed programme of the visit of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York, Sydney, 1901; (5) printed Treasurer's balance sheet of the Parramatta Football Club, 17 March 1882, addressed to James Houison; (6) handwritten letter from Gregor Gordon, Nairn, Scotland, dated 30 September 1950, to Miss M. Houison, Parramatta; (7) printed programme for the launch of the H.M.A.S. Parramatta, 31 January 1959; (8) black and white photograph of the Parramatta Fire Brigade [date unknown, but post-1898]; (9) handwritten letter from E. Loftus, Government House Sydney, to Mrs Lackey, date unknown; (10) various tickets for events in Parramatta; (11) handwritten letter from James and Ann Houison (nee Stark) to their son Alexander Houison, dated 2 April 1853; (12) supplements to the Cumberland Argus, 28 January 1888 and 25 June 1902.
