Helen Helga Wilson (1902-1991), author and poet, was born in Zeehan, Tasmania. Her family left for Western Australia in 1905. She was educated at Methodist Ladies’ College, Claremont, and won a scholarship to Perth Modern School. Her father was killed in France in 1917. Helen graduated Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia in 1922, one of the first women graduates and married Edward Lionel Wilson in 1926; they had three children, Edward Peter, Margaret Helen and Warwick Mayne. Helen and Edward lived in Manly, NSW, from 1972, where she was patron of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (Manly Peninsula Regional Branch), 1981-1990. She was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her services to Australian literature in 1980. - Scope and ContentIncludes (1) handwritten letter from Cecil Roberts to Helen Wilson, dated 20 September 1963; (2) typed letter from Rigby Australia to Helen Wilson, dated 21 June 1971, plus 2 book reviews from newspapers; (3) handwritten letter from Dorothy to Helen Wilson, no date, with a newsclipping from the Sunday Times; (4) a bibliography of works written by Helen Wilson; (5) 8 scripts of radio talks on ABC, including The fishiest place I have ever seen; It's streets were paved with pearl; Faint heart and tender stomach; The oldest mine in the world; The roaring days - yesterday and today; Cities of the old silk road - Taskent, Bokara, Samarkand; Land of the Dodo; Earth in the making; The track - the story of the road to Darwin.
