  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    E. W .Ward, Deputy Master of the Mint, and Professor John Smith, University of Sydney, undertook a tour of the Southern Goldfields in 1860 for the New South Wales government. The main purpose of the tour was to report on machinery and methods used to extract gold from auriferous quartz. Their report was published in The Sydney Morning Herald on 1 September 1860, p. 6.

    Comprises ten stereographic views of the Southern Goldfields, New South Wales, and surrounding areas, photographed between May and June 1860.
