    David George Stead (6 March 1877 – 2 August 1957) was an Australian marine biologist, ichthyologist, oceanographer, conservationist and writer. He was born at St Leonard's in Sydney, and educated at public schools and the Sydney Technical College. In 1909 he was a founder of, and during its early years the main driving force behind, the Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia. His career included many government positions both in Australia and in Malaya. He served as the Australian representative on international committees concerned with fisheries science, marine biology and oceanography. He often wrote under the pen names 'Physalia' and 'Dinnawan', and edited Australian Wild Life, the Australian Geographer and Australian Naturalist.

    Included is (1) Field notes that encompasses Deniliquin, October 1909, Gippsland Lakes, November 1909 and Narrandera, January 1916. The book is signed by David G. Stead and includes translations of aboriginal words; (2) the corrected galley proof of 'Observations of the Murray cod with its capture and disposal' / by David G. Stead, 1902.
