  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

On 23 April, 1990, the town of Nyngan was flooded. It was evacuated the following day using helicopters and its people were taken to Dubbo where they stayed until Nyngan was habitable again. The oral history project was commissioned by the Bogan Shire Council to record and commemorate the flood.

The interviews set out to capture the recollections of a cross section of people whose lives were affected by the flood. These include the people of Nyngan and the Bogan district, members of the Police Force and the Ambulance Service, ministers of religion, members of charitable organisations such as the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Salvation Army, Bushfire Brigades, and volunteers from Dubbo and Cobar.

The interviews were conducted in Nyngan by interviewer Edward Stokes in December 1990.
