These recordings are a collection of interviews of elderly residents of the City of Greater Lithgow in New South Wales. They constitute part of the background research of a survey of the industrial and commercial history of the city. The aim of the survey was to locate sites of significance, record them and make appropriate recommendations to the Heritage Council.

The tapes are a lively and colourful version of Lithgow's industrial history.

A summary report was published under the title 'Survey of historical sites Lithgow area, directed by Aedeen Cremin with R. Ian Jack ... [et al.] : report on a survey prepared for the Heritage Council of New South Wales by the University of Sydney 1981', published by the Dept. of Environment and Planning, 1987
