  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Clement N. Govett joined the army ca. 1940 and was assigned to the Supply and Transport Headquarters, Melbourne, Victoria and later served with a transport company. About 1942 he was moved to the Northern Territory. After World War II, Govett was assigned to the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. He served later in Korea during the Korean War and returned to Japan in January 1951. He retired from the army in October 1970
  • Scope and Content
    This collection contains material relating to Govett family history, Australian history and Australians during the war.

    Albums are numbered on inside covers. Most images have typed descriptions with names and dates.

    Album no. 1.
    1973 to 1986. Holiday photographs of sea voyages to Japan, China, South East Asia, South Pacific and New Zealand.

    Album no. 2.
    1943 to 1975. Photographs of Alice Springs; British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan, 1947 to 1952. Photographs mainly show social activities and day trips during leave. Also includes trips to the Northern Territory, weddings and birthday occasions. Photographs of Australian Aboriginals performing a corroboree.

    18 August to 20 December 1978. Holiday photographs of trip to the United States via the Far East and return across the Pacific Ocean.

    Letterheads and envelopes of hotels and resorts collected by Miss Carmel Keeshan of Parkville, Victoria. Also several family photographs and ephemera.
