Sir William Charles Windeyer had introduced an Ad Eundem Bill in 1871, but it was never passed. The bill of 1877 met a similar fate. A third bill, presented in 1880 by Sir Arthur Renwick was passed in March 1881 (44 Vic. no. 22) but was repealed in 1900.
