    Althouse and Geiger (later known as Althouse & Geiger Pty Ltd).

    J. Althouse (b. Reading, Pennsylvania) and F.A. Geiger (b. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) arrived in Sydney in 1875 from the United States, forming an association with the Sydney grainer J.A. Kean. This arrangement was concluded within twelve months and the two men began a business as signwriters, grainers and decorators to the trade. The firm produced signage, banners, trade displays. The firm continued and expanded their work into commercial and domestic painting, silk screen printing, advertising and commercial display work including automated signage, fluorescent displays, metalwork and murals.
