The Hurstville Historical Society was formed on 6 November 1967 at a public meeting called by Hurstville Council. The Society began collecting objects for a museum. The Centennial Bakery Museum at Hurstville was opened on 24 May 1994 and was managed by the Society until 1998. Dr Joan Hatton became Secretary of the Society in 1973 and elected a Fellow in November 1981. She died in April 2002.
