The S.S. Douglas Mawson was a wooden ketch rigged twin screw steamer which operated along the northern Queensland coast between Cairns and the Gulf of Carpentaria. In 1923 it was wrecked near Melville Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria. - Scope and ContentA series of letters mainly between the Northern Territory Commissioner of Police and the Administrator of the Northern Territory, with reports by mounted constables and others. These papers include occasional Aboriginal personal names and Aboriginal English/pidgin e.g. statement by Sambo.
