    Ronald Campbell Gunn, 1808-1881, botanist, public servant and politician, was born in Cape Town. He arrived in Hobart in 1830, and held a wide range of government positions, and was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1833, police magistrate at Circular Head in 1836 and private secretary to Sir John Franklin, the Governor in 1840
