  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Richard Cornelius Critchett Walker, 1841-1903, civil servant, was born at sea on the voyage to Launceston. In 1856, he joined the civil service and resigned in 1863. Walker rejoined the civil service in 1865 as a clerk in the Colonial Secretary's Department. In 1879, he became principal under-secretary. Walker was appointed magistrate in 1884, and was Returning Officer for the 1897 Australian Federal Convention, for the two referenda on the constitution, and for the first Federal elections in 1901
