    Emma Phyllis Rogers was 19 years old when she boarded the S.S. Warwick as an assisted immigrant on 19 January 1884. She arrived in Sydney on 12 March 1884. She is described as a housemaid from Middlesex in the passenger lists. In 1889 she married Martin O'Brien and had 5 children. She died in Sydney in 1940.

  • Scope and Content
    This diary describes Emma Roger's journey from Plymouth to Sydney in 1884 on the S.S. Warwick. She writes about shipboard events such as seasickness and measles and the death of several children. She writes about singing practice for the Divine Service, entertainment, food and the weather as well as well as the crew. She discusses the stopover at the port of Tenerife, where the ship was docked next to a ship conveying convicts to 'some place near New Zealand.' She also writes about the Cape of Good Hope and the voyage along the Australian coast from Adelaide. On arrival in Sydney, the S. S. Warwick was quarantined for three days. She also mentions the Sydney Depot to which the single women were sent from the ship.
