E. C. Merewether, 1820-1893, arrived in Sydney, N.S.W. in 1841. He became General Superintendant of the Australian Agricultural Company in 1861, moving to Newcastle, N.S.W. He resigned in December, 1875. In 1876 he moved to Sydney where he built Castlefield at Bondi. He also built Dennarque at Mount Wilson

Letters by E. C. Merewether to inter alia Edward Hamilton, Sir Arthur Hodgson. Jesse Gregson, concerning, inter alia, the affairs of the Australian Agricultural Co., especially its coal-mining interests, and the Burwood estate of the Mitchell family. They are copies of letters addressed to E. C. Merewether, chiefly from the Burwood Coal Mining Co.
