Thomas Allen Lascelles, 1738-1859, public servant and settler, was born in London. He joined the 73rd Regiment and reached the rank of brevet-captain. Lascelles went to New South Wales in 1811, and Van Diemen's Land in 1813, where he was appointed private secretary to the Lieutenant-Governor. By 1816, Lascelles had resigned this appointment and his commission, and was farming on his grants. From 1827 to 1829, he was police magistrate for Richmond. From 1833 to 1834 Lascelles was editor of the Colonist. After becoming bankrupt, Lascelles moved to Port Phillip about 1850 - Scope and ContentPersonal letters connected with Lascelles's life at Richmond. Correspondents include W. T. Parramore
