  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The convicts and bushrangers, Thomas Jeffries, John Perry and Edward Russell escaped from Launceston Gaol in December 1825. They captured, wounded and murdered a number of people in the district. After days without food, Russell was shot by his companions and his flesh eaten. Jeffries and Perry were sentenced to death and hanged in April 1826
