  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Alfred Teed Puddicombe was rector at the Anglican Church at Moruya, from 1866–1871 and then as an assistant minister at St Saviour’s, Goulburn from 1874. He was made Archdeacon and then Canon at St Saviour’s.
He ministered at Goulburn for around 25 years, retiring from duties in 1894, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, (Wednesday 26 September 1894), announcing that his poor health required him to relinquish his duties.
A formal resignation from his position at St Saviour’s Goulburn was reported in the Sydney Morning Herald, Thursday 26 March 1896.
He moved back to England and according to the Sydney Morning Herald, was employed at the church at Morwenstow, North Cornwall. His death was reported in the Barrier Miner, Monday 20 June 1904 as occurring in Cornwall in May of that year (falling off a cliff).

It was noted on the back of the (mid 20th century) frame that the watercolour was painted by Beynon Puddicombe (brother of A.T. Puddicombe). Miniature artist, Beynon Puddicombe, was active in London during the period 1850–1870. He was employed as a foreign correspondent for Smith Payne's Bank and married the Welsh novelist Anne Adaliza Evans (pen name Allen Raine) in 1872. Beynon died in 1906 in Wales.
