    Rev. John Waterhouse (1789-1842) was appointed Superintendent of Wesleyan Missions to Australasia and Polynesia in 1838. His son, Jabez Bunting Waterhouse (1821-1891), also became a Methodist minister, preaching throughout Tasmania, South Australia and New South Wales.

    Photostat copies of letters from Rev. John Waterhouse to the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society in London, posted from Hobart Town and Sydney. The letters incorporate his journal, giving an account of a voyage from April to September 1840 to New Zealand, Fiji and the Polynesian islands, with observations on the progress of missionary work, 1840-1841
