    George Gordon McCrae came to Melbourne from Scotland in 1841 and was one of the leading Victorian literary men of the day. He wrote several long poems, including this one which was never published in book form although it appeared in the Melbourne Review 1883 and an extract was included in 'The Fleet and Convoy and other Verses', Meburne. 1915
