    Douglas Haig, 1861-1928, field marshal, was appointed inspector-general of cavalry to Lord Kitchener in India in 1903, Major General in 1904, a director on the general staff of the War Office 1906. He was commander-in-chief, France in 1915. He was created Earl in 1919.
  • Scope and Content
    Personal letters, written just before Haig went to India, and whilst he was in India, with a brief resume of his movements in the weeks preceding his return to England to become Director of Military Training at the War Office.

    His correspondent Mr. Alston was resident in Australia.
