    Correspondence concerning surveying and gold prospecting expeditions in North West Tasmania, ca. 1859-1860, under the general superintendence of Ronald Campbell Gunn.

    The expeditions were in the vicinity of Surrey Hills, the Inglis, Forth Leven Hellyer and Calder rivers.

    Correspondents include J.E. Calder, the Colonial Treasurer, W. Colenso, J.M. Dooley, S.B. Emmett, J. Fraser, P.H. Gell, F.M. Innes, P.L. Lette, J. MacArthur, W. Malcolm, J. Milligan, the Surveyor-General, T.A. Murray, the Van Diemen's Land Co., and J.H. Wedge.

    Other topics of correspondence include, coal-mining at Schouten Island and Douglas River, the cutting of new roads, the effect of weather in Tasmanian plant ecology, ferns, a reference to Colenso's observation of the remains of the Moa, and efforts by the Van Diemen's Land Co. to open up the country between Circular Head and Hellyer River.
