La Trobe arrived in Melbourne in 1839 as Superintendent of the Port Phillip District and was Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria 1851-1854. He was also acting Lieutenant-Governor in Van Diemen's Land in 1846-47. R. C. Gunn was a Tasmanian botanist - Scope and ContentDescribes domestic events, a trip made to Cape Otway, the discovery of gold in Victoria and his life since leaving Australia
