The South Australian Company was a private joint stock venture formed in 1836 to encourage investment in the new British province of South Australia, when George Fife Angas, Thomas Smith and Harry Kingscote pooled their land resources. Included among the Company's interests were whaling, commerce, shipping, mining and livestock. The South Australian Banking Company was formed to take over that side of the business. The Company's South Australian affairs were liquidated in March 1949
