    Text of the illuminated manuscript:

"To J.J. Quinn, Dear Sir, We the residents of Ultimo desire to convey to you our warm appreciation of the praiseworthy, courteous, & careful manner in which you discharged your duties for seventeen years uninterruptedly as letter carrier for the district. Your strict attention to your duties as an officer, and your thoughtful and gentlemanly bearing in the discharge thereof, has made your name a household word amongst the residents, the memory of which will remain long after you have taken up your new duties. Not alone did we appreciate you as an officer of the Commonwealth, but as a private citizen & an earnest worker in everything that was for the welfare of the district.

In conclusion we congratulate you on your well deserved promotion, & hope you will discharge your duties with as much credit to yourself and benefit to the Public, as those you now relinquish from amongst us
    .
Wishing your good health and continued success until you shall have attained that postition that we all think you are eminently suited for,

    We remain, on behalf of residents Revd. C.W. Willis, J. Cosgrove, W.B. Harvey, J.J. Hynes, D. Cuneen, M. Ryan, H. Gillespie, J.J. O'Connor, W. Beattie and 300 others, Sydney, June 10th, 1907."
