    Charles Alfred Ewen was born in Birminham in 1853. He went to New Zealand with his parents in 1855, and lived in Auckland. He was employed by the Bank of New Zealand from 1875-1896, when he was appointed Manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company at Wellington. He later became manager of the A.M.P. branch in Wellington.

    a. Correspondence, 7 June 1897 - 18 September 1917
    Contains personal and circular letters. Correspondents include the Royal Society of Tasmania.

    b. Papers re Samoa, ca. 21 November 1907 - 24 March 1919
    Consists of 'Copy of a report of Dr. Solf to the Imperial Colonial office in Berlin', ca. 21 November 1907, re the governing of Samoa, and an unsigned carbon typescript of a report to the Acting Administrator of Samoa re the minimum salary considered necessary for a white official in Samoa, 24 March 1919.

    Includes Victorian and New Zealand miner's rights, Christmas card and invitation.
